Tróia Marina

Located on the Tróia peninsula, just 10 minutes from Comporta lies the meeting point for all boat trip and water sports lovers. A prime place with a view onto the Serra da Arrábida Natural Park and Setúbal and which also features a range of shops, restaurants and a casino.

Roman ruins of Tróia

Known as the ‘Pompeii of Setúbal’, this ancient Roman urban cluster from dating from the 1st century was one of the main centres for the production of ‘garum’ or fermented fish sauce condiment. Here you can see various ruins to do with this culinary art in a visit to the site.

Pines and fragrant flowers

You’ll be surprised by the fertile and abundant flowers and greenery. The umbrella and maritime pines packed with birds will be your sanctuary for the summer. In the spring a splash of colour and scents are added to the white-washed villages, dotting the land with red poppies and carpets of purple hues of lavender and rosemary.

The Wooden Pier at Carrasqueira

Built by the locals in the 1950s and 1960s, this is intricate feat of human ingenuity. In the morning it is from here that the fisherman start their day while fascinated bystanders watch them depart in their boats. At the end of the day the quayside is bathed in the golden light of the sunset which drenches the local boatyards.

Dolphins

Spot charming dolphins in their natural habitat of the Sado Estuary. These waters are home to the only pod of bottle-nosed dolphins in Portugal. If you’re lucky, you’ll see them jumping and frolicking in the water. It’s an marvelous experience for both children and adults alike.

Beyond the beach lie the rice paddies, an essential part of the soul and history of Comporta. See how the tones of green change with each season and how the rice plants swell with water dur-ing the summer months, reflecting a vast, bright sky. Fabulous.

Breathtaking Beaches

You’ll not find many footprints on the soft, golden sand along this pristine beach which extends 65km nestled between wild dunes and the clean crystalline waters of the ocean. It’s the ideal place to walk, bike and soak up the surrounding biodiversity.
